Our minds and spirits can fill up with bad news and the heaviness of this world. One way we can combat despair and embrace hope is through continued learning and expanding our Jewish practice. Judaism helps make life better—even during terrible circumstances—especially now!
Starting this Friday night, March 21, at 7:30 pm (Zoom only), I will offer a sermon series on how to prepare for Passover spiritually. The series will continue on April 4 at 7:30 pm (Choir Shabbat, in person and Zoom) and on April 11 at 7:30 pm (in person and Zoom). We will explore themes of Passover that inform our personal and societal development towards more incredible goodness and peace.
March 28 Session 1: The Meaning of Freedom and Personal Liberation We will explore the concept of freedom in Jewish thought and how it relates to the historical Exodus and personal spiritual liberation. Register here
April 4 Session 2: The Role of Matzah and Maror: Humility and Bitterness We will explore the symbolic meanings of matzah and maror (bitter herbs), focusing on humility and simplicity and acknowledging personal and communal bitterness. These themes are very alive in our economy and our society.
April 11 Session 3: Redemption and the Promise of the Future We will explore the concept of redemption in Jewish thought, how it relates to the Exodus, and how we can work toward personal and communal redemption.

We will examine the Passover story's social and personal themes through traditional and contemporary Jewish texts and authors. Each week, I will leave you with a spiritual assignment!
Please register for our Kol Ami community seder on Monday, April 14. This seder is dedicated to all ages and explores Passover traditions from around the Jewish world. It is fun, engaging, and fast-paced, perfect for a school or work night, and it will feature delicious food from both the Ashkenazi and Sephardic traditions. Register here.
Everyone is welcome near and far! Get ready for Passover with Kol Ami.
