At first we were a purely social organization. We started five years ago, and our women had the good sense to create an organization independent of Kol Ami, with our own bylaws and bank account. We began having used book sales from the outset, and we saved our money for a bigger purpose, which turned out to be our Sacred Texts Fund. In the past year we have donated more than $3000. to the temple, first donating 62 of the new URJ prayer books. This is more than 1/3 of the prayer books we use at each service. Then we donated the new Chumashim we use in Torah study. As Marge Eiseman says in song, “All I want on any single day is to make a small difference, in some way.” Kol Isha is making a difference!
I am excited about our upcoming year. We will begin with our Kick-off brunch on September 13th. We plan to repeat some events that were popular last year, like our Craft Day, Soup and Sing Along Movie Night; and this year, we will enjoy an evening at the Kirkland Performing Arts Center. Our new board wants to support KATY in one of their Tikkun Olam projects. Please take a look at our calendar and plan to join in the fun..
Kol Isha Sisterhood is first and foremost, an opportunity for friendship and learning. It is a positive and forward looking group of women who support and encourage each other, and we actively support Kol Ami. This year, we will sponsor a monthly woman’s Torah study group. Please look for a signup sheet in your packet.
As president of Kol Isha Sisterhood, The board and I invite you to celebrate our togetherness. Membership is appropriate if you are a Jewish woman, in the conversion process, are married to a Jewish man, or are bringing your children up Jewish.
We look forward to friendship, activities, and trying new things. Please join us as we begin a great year.
